Recently forced into retirement due to cancer, I seem to have more time on my hands for something like this. I have a small vegetable garden and enjoy making pickles and canning tomato sauce. I could use the compost too. My current struggle is what kind of cool to build. For a flock of only 6 hens, I could go small with a low run. Or I could make it larger for standing headroom in the run and a raised coop. I keep waffling on this point. Stalled before I even get started.

Welcome to BackYardChickens! So glad to have you here in our wonderful community of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people! My advice is to always make it bigger than you think you'll need because chicken math!
