(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am completely new to all this stuff. I adopted a chicken about 3 weeks ago after she flew into my yard and my dog (with only a couple teeth, thank god) attacked her. She is fine, and none of the neighbors claimed her so, she's my new buddy!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Just the one.

(3) What breeds do you have?
She is a plymouth barred rock.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Surfing the internet for information because I know very little about chickens.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Spending time with my dog and fiancé and watching movies when I have time.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My fiancé and I absolutely love our chicken. We named her Eggs and she is a sweetheart.

Hello Keelio. Welcome to BYC! There is tons of info here and very good people to help you on your journey as a new chicken owner. :)

I don't know how much reading/research you've already done, but if you want to get the most out of BYC, I suggest you do the following:
  • Spend some time in the Learning Center
  • When you have specific questions, most of the time a quick search will come up with the answers.
  • If you don't find anything useful that way, post your question in an appropriate sub-forum. People here are very helpful and will answer your question even it has been asked 100 times before.
Enjoy your time here.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Are you planning to get more chickens? Chickens are flock animals and much happier with buddies. However, if you plan to keep her as a house chickens - you will be her flock mate.

Please check out "People with house chickens," thread on BYC

Hi there! Yes I am planning on getting one more chicken this spring so she has a buddy. I sit outside with her for a few hours in the morning and evening to keep her company throughout the day.
