hi! My husband and I just started out chicken family.
We have a golden wynadote rooster, barred Rock hen, buff orpington hen, and an Easter Egger hen, PLUS three 5 week old silkies indoors under a light.
We have 3 dogs as well (2 are rescues) that are getting familiar with the chickens. But not ready to mingle with them.
We have a 8x12 garden shed we turned into a coop. So far we have 1hen laying and 1 hen molting (I guess from the move here) and 1 hen not laying maybe due to the move as well.
We are so excited to be in the country and finally have our dream of raising chickens.

Oh! Are you in for some fun!

I've had mine about 18 months now. My husband started out merely indulging me (after listening to how cool it would be to have some chickens for months and months and months before he caught on that I was serious). Within weeks he was out thousands on a coop (neither of us could build a box) but the chicks arrived and he was smitten too. Of course, he doesn't have to do any of the mucking out or hauling feed bags. But he still has to foot the bills so I'm grateful and delighted that he's crazy about them now too.

We'll hope to see some pix of the chix and the digs. And we'll look forward to hearing your story unfold.

Meanwhile, you'll find great advice here for the common problems and concerns and the unusual ones as well.

Welcome!!!
