Hi Everyone! I'm very new to owning Chickens. Just got my first chicks Feb. 25th as a Birthday present for myself. I've been wanting Chickens for at least 10 years if not more. I don't like to just jump into anything with out some knowledge.

My 3 lil chicks I got seem to be thriving, which really makes me happy and relieved. LOL One is a Silkie named Nugget, a Frizzle named Mumble, and I think a Belgian U'ccle named Cinnamon. I really can't remember what he said when I bought Cinnamon. I was just so excited at the moment. :)

I was only intending to get a Silkie but when they walked me around and showed me all the different breeds they had I just couldn't make up my mind! That's why I got the 3 different chicks.

I think they've imprinted to me. When I walk away Nugget goes nuts and jumps at the door of the brooder. Mumble just started doing that today as well. Cinnamon is more laid back but will watch and look to see where I am. I ended up putting a stuffed animal (Big Bird) and a box with a hole in it that they can go in just in case the red light is still too bright for them at night. Every morning they are perched on Big Bird's legs. It's really cute! I've been wanting to get a picture but when they see me they jump off.

If anyone has any suggestions on raising chickens I'd be more then appreciative to receive any. In the next month we plan on starting to build a coop. We are really enjoying the chicks. I wish I had gotten some years ago! heehee

Oh how cute they are! I'm new to the "chicken game" too. I don't have my babies yet. I'm setting up my brooder and want everything to be just right before I get them. This site has been so much help. Good luck with everything!

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad you joined. If the light is too bright, you can use a red heat lamp bulb. The red bulb will help with any pecking. Good luck, they are too cute. :thumbsup

Hi there!

I hope that you enjoy this site as much as I have, but don't spend too long looking or your coop might not get done fast enough!! I know that I could sit here all day and just keep absorbing information. I am certainly earning my "crazy chicken lady" name! Good luck with your pretty babies and have fun!
