New to Backyard Chickens

I have some extra 1/2 hardware cloth which I will use to make the the house is secured up. It might sound weird but seeing those things in with my chickens fired me up and I need to kill some rats!

Rats will chew through wood too.
Making an "apron" around the entire coop and run will help o keep them out.

You need to beg, borrow or buy some Jack Russell Terriers for rat duty.

Your chickens are lovely! So sorry about rats, definitely use the hardware cloth to cover any opening larger than 1/2". An apron would be even better!

Nothing I hate more than moce and rats. We have a mice problem in the garden and coop area.
I bought a rolling water trap that my sister swears by. It’s a rolling rod that you attach to bucket. You fill with water and the mice run across the top to get the peanut butter you put in the middle of the bar. The bar rolls, they fall in and drown.
I haven’t tried it yet but I’m afraid to use poisons with the chickens around and I had used traps but my very curious dog got his nose snapped in one. I’ve tried the sticky traps and caught a lizard
So my last hope is this rolling trap.
