I've been a longtime fan of BackYard Chickens. I love reading everyone's advice and opinions about raising chickens. I'm newly retired (less than a year), a new grandmother (a little over a year), and a first time chicken keeper (less than six months). Man, life is great right about now.
Both of my grandmothers raised chickens and I always knew that one of these days I would have my own flock as well. It took a while to get my husband on board, but, oh boy, did he really take the plunge when he finally decided to. Currently, we have 18 birds in our flock. The older set consists of Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, and Blue Splash Marans. Our younger set is made of Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, and Green Queens.
Our older ladies are just starting to lay - exciting for sure. I'm just happy to join in on the fun.
