Me too! I raised registered Katahdin sheep until coyotes, dogs and age made it too much for me a few years ago.

I really enjoyed much of keeping Katahdins, especially the lamb chops! They ate the grass, but also the trees and vines and kept the pastures and fences clean. The big old rams could be a struggle to trim their feet and etc. and that along with loosing too many to dogs and coyotes made me "retire" from keeping them. The ewes were so friendly and acted like big pet dogs to me. I had to decide when they were lambs if they were meat, breeding stock/pets. Once I raised them up it was hard to let them go to the packing house. Most were sold as breeding stock. I would put a couple in the freezer every year.

One of my best friends has Katahdin x Barbados and they're really lovely ewes. If I ever have the space for sheep, I'd probably buy a few from her to get a little experience, and then do a hard detour and see if I could find some Icelandics for milk.

My deceased neighbors had Barbados hair sheep. We both got those breeds because of their excellent meat qualities and no shearing needed.
