Welcome to BYC, Chris. It's nice when the hen sits on the eggs and then raises the chicks, isn't it?Hello! I am new to this forum. In spring we got 11 chicks, one of them is a rooster the rest hens. I was initially worried about the rooster as I have a history of getting attacked! But hes been niceWso far and we have a mutual respect for each other. I realized I needed more help when one of my hens decided to sit on her eggs. I didn't think she was actually serious, its fall and getting very cold! I thought she was just young and dumb. BUT surprise, I came into the coop Saturday and there was one little, very-cute chick!!
I have 4(1 of them is the rooster) Rhode Islands, 3 Cinnamon Queens, 2 Australorps and a black sex link. I've grew up around chickens but my parents were their main caretakers. We built a nice run with their coop but we let them out to roam around the property and I have LOVED watching them! Its relaxing and funny at times.
