Hello fellow chicken lovers. I am new to backyard chickens. I have only had chickens for a little less than a year and love it. Ive got about 20 hens and 1 rooster. I had a couple dominique bantams but they got out of coop and dogs had a early dinner :(. I was wondering if someone could recommend a place where i could buy some dominique or barred rock bantams (look the same but not sure if they are or not) because my kids wont leave me alone until i do. My mother in law gave me all my chickens so i never had to buy them and have no idea where to. Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome to BYC!

Sorry about the dog attack. You might check out our Buy Sell and Trade section. Maybe you can find some of these birds there....

You also might stop by your state thread and chat with your chicken neighbors. Maybe someone nearby raises these birds. Just scroll thru this link to find your state thread....

Enjoy this new journey you are on and I hope you find what you are looking for!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the dog attack. TwoCrows gave you some good links to check out. If you will ship chicks, quite a few commercial hatcheries carry Barred Rock Bantams at times, Cackle, Stromberg's, Meyer/ My Pet Chicken etc

Thanks twocrows and kelsie2290 i will def check those threads and hatcherys. Drumstick diva yea i saw where they got out but i reinforced the whole coop yeaterday.

This morning i was in back yard and thought i heard some chirping but was in a rush so told my mom to have my kids look around in backyard and i just got a call they found one of the bantams hiding behind a pile of broken concrete i have. And shes fine

. So i guess they only ate one of them. Atleast some good news after the bad news.

Welcome to this awesome site. I had almost the same experience with chicks getting out but it was my fault, no dog but dummy me. And thought I'd lost a hen. Later that day she showed up wanting to get back in with the others.

So glad at least one of the bantams was OK!

Welcome to BYC! Sorry about the loss of your bantams. You have received some good advice regarding your chickens. Make sure that use use hardware cloth on your coop and any runs you may have instead of chicken wire as there are a number of predators that can either tear through chicken wire or go through the openings in the mesh. Good luck with your flock.

When i found the dominique bantam chic i put her with my golden laced wyandotte chics and they attack her non stop. I put her in a cage by herself but not sure if shell be ok by herself or she needs some company. Should i buy a few chics to put in with her or whats your guys opinions?
