New to Bourbon Reds - my poults are quite light colored - pic heavy

Some breeders have not selected properly in their breeders and there is a lot of washed out bourbons going around, to what some would call a buff, but in reality they are a washed out BR due to poor breeding.

I would tend to agree with this statement, there are some breeders that try to go for a certain trait, like fast weight gain for market turkeys or a hatchery for the quick sale and numbers and forget the APA standard. One thing we have noticed is the ones quick to find fault with others never put their own stock up for public viewing.

Yup that is why you should always look at the website of one and see their birds they offer and even better if you can see their birds in person.

Again, thank you to everyone for your helpful comments!

Yes, I will continue to post photos as they grow. I am also going to contact the person I purchased them from again, and just ask him to tell me what hatchery they came from. Maybe that will help.

I had contacted him before I posted this thread and these photos, telling him of my worries that they are not bourbon reds. He did offer to let me return the birds and refund my money, but insisted they are indeed bourbon reds.

This is simply a case of me not doing my research before buying my birds - I have no one to blame but myself in the end for not getting what I paid for. At least I do have turkeys! Which in and of itself is a relief. By next year, I'll be prepared and purchase the birds I know I want.

...nobody commented on the one poult with the droopy looking wings - any worries? look fairly normal?

Well there you go harp!, we are in total agreement here. When I go to a breeders website I want to see what the parent stock looks like.

And now is a great time to plug both our websites.
