New to BYC anc chickens!

Hello everyone!
My name is Dawn. I got 6 chickens in April. 2 buff orgingtons, 2 light brahma's, 1 black austrolorp and 1 black sex link. 1 BO and 1 light brahma ending up being roosters. So I started my chicken math skills and ordered another BO and 3 Silver Lace Wyandottes that are now 2 months old. My boyfriend built me a beautiful chicken mansion but I have been working on plans to expand the pen to give them more space and room for different roosts to keep them entertained during the day. They are allowed to free range in the evenings when we are home. We have yet to get any eggs much to the boyfriends dismay! We are waiting patiently! We also have 2 dogs and 3 cats to tend to. The cats enjoy watching the chickens. I only had trouble with one but after being locked in the house a few times and a good spray with the house he stopped bothering them. One of my other cats actually follows them around and lays down near them and I assume he is guarding them as he is the protector in the home.

Glad you could join the flock! I've really enjoyed looking at your pics and that's a great coop you have there. Waiting for those first eggs can seem to take an age especially when you start out with chicks. I'm sure once they get going you will lots of eggs. You have some good layers there in your flock.

I see you're already familiar with 'chicken math', lol. You learn fast! Thank you for sharing the pictures and the nice intro. Your coop is terrific, I'm sure the girls are comfortable in there. Good luck with getting those first eggs soon, that's an exciting moment.

Welcome to BYC, Dawn. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have all of my favorite breeds. Thanks for posting the pics. :eek:) Black Sex Links are my very favorites (actually a hybrid rather than a breed) as they are very friendly and hardy, egg laying machines, and Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed.
