I am so excited, next week I will become a chicken mom to 6 Barred Rocks and the week after I will be adding 6 Rhode Island Reds, 6 White Wyandottes, and 3 Pearl-White Leghorns. From what I understand I may end up getting some extra males to help keep the babies warm, so I guess I will have some extras. I am counting down the days until my little girls and a couple boys will arrive. For now I am researching, preparing brooding pens, making sure all the supplies are here and the entire family is helping to build the coop and run.
We are new to Kansas and being farmers of any kind. I had to work on my hubby for months to let me start raising chickens, finally convinced him (Had to promise to make him fresh eggs in the morning once our girls start laying). We really moved out to the country to have a more self-sustained life, I feel raising chickens for eggs and meat is one of many steps to achieving that goal. I look forward to interacting with all of you and I will post some pics once I get my chicks and pen/run finished up. Have a great day!!!!
