Hi, everyone! Like I said, I'm extremely new to this whole "chicken" thing - the Easter Bunny just kinda dropped them off along with the candy!
So, now we've got 5 chicks (Sleepy didn't wake up) and I gotta figure out this deal FAST! >_<;
If I'm real still, I can think I can SEE them growing. :hmm

Currently, they'v graduated from the old hamster cage to a deee-lux Sterilite bin with a clamp-lamp, food, water, toys, bedding.
So now, I guess I need to know...

1) What breed are they?
My wife's friend got the from TSC. She promptly forgot the breeds and the staff at TSC couldn't tell me anything over the phone.

2) Boys or Girls?
To be honest, we want eggs - not crowing!
And if wifey cracks an egg and an embryo falls out - she'll totally go to pieces (suspicious-looking wet leaves on the sidewalk freak her out).

3) Everything about building a coop.
I'm fairly handy, so I'm not at all worried about the actual construction of the thing as much as what EXACTLY it is I'll be building.

4) How to dog-proof the coop.
We've got 2 indoor/outdoor dogs (Beagle-mix & Spaniel-mix).
The Beagle is showing some interest in the chicks (yummy).
The Spaniel, not so much - I think she's a bit smarter than to let on her true intentions. >_>

I guess I'll get to posting!
Thanks in advance for everyone's help in our new endeavor.
As soon as I gain new knowledge and insight, I'll be sure to pass that right along to the noobs still to come.
Thanks again! ^___^

Welcome! You'll need to post pictures if you want us to identify them.

Welcome from the Central Coast of California. Where are you from? Sounds like you are getting a good start. If you post some pictures on the "Breeds" section of the Index, you should get some pretty knowledgeable responses. Until then, take care of those little chicks!
