New to BYC and just wanted to say hello from Camano Island, WA

Hello, chicken lover. I sell real estate on Camano Island and am having trouble getting the straight scoop on whether chickens are allowed on the island (other than neighborhoods that have CCRs prohibiting them). I have a new client who wants to raise chickens. I have heard that if the Animal Control folks stop by you must state that the chickens are pets and that you don't eat the eggs. Can this be accurate?

Hello,
I have never heard that, but it is considered rural and not in city limits so there shouldn't be any restrictions. Within the city limits of Stanwood there is a restriction of how many chickens you can have in your backyard. There is a farm that used to raise Alpaca's but they were too close to a stream and wetlands and had to change that because of the manure that could contaminate it on Camano, but it was a very large farm. There are about 5 homes around me that have backyard chickens and none of them have ever heard of that either, and 1 neighbor has been here for 15 years.

I don't have any hard proof though, so maybe just try googling Camano island agriculture restrictions and see what you can find.
