Hi All! Newbie from Frederick, MD here. Just trying to learn the ropes. Been using BYC for quite some time for answers but finally decided to join. We are home to a small flock of Rhode Island Reds, Little Boy Blue the Tennessee Fainting Goad, his adoptive brother, Oreo. Our 2 kids, Aussie, Chihuahua and cat round out a humble mountain homestead that is slowly growing.
I am in a bit of a pickly with my goats and chickens. They share the same space which has ample greens for goat foraging. I supplement with a scoop of goat feed and give the chickens some feed also. The problem is the goat are obviously eating WAY too much! Even though I can greatly relate to their eating yummy food where and when it's available, I'm concerned about their protruding bellies. So here are my questons:
Is it necessary to feed the goats at all with the abundance of grazing varieties?
Do the chickens NEED the feed with so much ground to roam?
Also, the chicken poo is very soft and messy. We give them Dumor from
TSC. Should I be doing something differently?
Thanks so much in advance for any input.
Have a blessed day!
