New to BYC but not to raising chickens!

hello!!

we've been raising a small flock of laying hens for about 8 years now. we love having the hens and the fresh eggs but until recently did not take a whole lot of interest in learning about chickens. we've just been kind of making it up as we go along.

but now we have a chicken-obsessed five-year-old who wants to know *everything* she can about them...so i thought i'd check in here!

i'm also hoping to find some positive, friendly rooster stories as we just discovered that the above mentioned five-year-old's absolute favorite hen is a rooster.

Our favorite was a rooster too till he became about a year old and started going after us. He had to go as it was unsafe with the 5 yr old grandaughter...RIP Roo Roo
Just keep an eye on your roosters and the little ones!

My australorp rooster used to kiss my mother when she held him, he was the sweetest thing but my favorite rooster was a Jersey giant he would jump into my lap for a nap and would start to snore! and the rooster were always the first ones to come when I called.
What breed is your rooster?

yeah. we've been talking to our daughter about roosters and safety. he's still very young and she carries him all around the yard...but we'll be keeping a close eye on him.

We share a last name.
Its my married name.
