New to BYC, egg production and molting/feathering questions

After seeing Teila's pics, I think I have both molting chickens and roo favorites. I'm just glad to know everything is ok. I can easily up the protein. Thanks everyone!

You're welcome. Like I mentioned, Turkey or Game Bird crumbles have higher protien. If you switch, you'll need to be sure to have free choice oyster shell for calcium. It'll run ya broke, but if you could supplement with some freeze dried mealworms, the bang for the buck as far as protein is great. Keep us posted!

If all the rescues were hens, I would think your one rooster would be exhausted and couldn't overbreed them. You may want to see if any pin feathers are coming in to replace the ones that were lost. Some people like to use cat food for extra protein but, it has a lot of salt.

All my hens are molting but I still get 7 - 9 large eggs per day. The girls are about 8 months old and we get down in to the 30's at night. I feel pretty lucky. This is today's harvest.
