Hi,
I have been raising chickens for over a year. I had 3 hens. One Rhode Island Red. One Plymouth Rock White and one beautiful silver laced Wyendotte. The Silver laced was attacked by a racoon and was given to a Veterinarian who offered to repair her and give her a home. In return, I don't get to see her anymore.
So I went out and bought 2 new chicks that were about 5 weeks old. They were a straight run so I don't know if I picked out 2 more hens. I have another Silver Laced and a light Brahman. I think they are both roosters.
My new goals for this year are to work on changing the laws here in Somers, CT. The zoning laws say that you have to have "farm animals" housed in a structure that is at least 200 ft away from a neighbor's property line. My chicken coop is about 10 feet away. However, the neighbor next to me is actually a "farm" and has horses and lots of land. This neighbor put up an 8ft privacy fence so they don't see my chickens at all. Apparently she was the one who complained to the town??
If anyone has any suggestions, I am open to it.
Great place. Thanks for the welcome
Carolyn
