New to BYC from Northern California

Hello everybody!! I have been checking this site for quite some time, but just joined today. I live in Nor*Cal, we have 3 Silkies that hatched 1/4/13 along with 2 Sizzles. We also have 2 sister hens, 1/2 Ameraucana & 1/2 Brahma. They are still fertile so I built an incubator & I'm trying to hatch the chicks I'm a nurse & a homeschooling mom to 2 girls, 10 & 3 years old. The chickens are a great homeschool project!! I have 3 eggs in the incubator now due to hatch on 2/13. It's all very exciting to me. As a nerdy nurse, I love the science of chickens!!

Thanks!!! I just got another egg! I guess I have a mid-day layer the younger one has only had one verifiable egg. This one is my Valentine hatch!
Question- what noise do they usually make when they feel the need to lay? Is it the loud noise or the inner growl thing they do? Lol I'm sure they have names, but I'm a newbie
