New to BYC from Northern California

Howdy, I live in ga now ( hubby just retired from active duty army) but am from the central coast area. I am jealous cuz northern cal is georgous!! I too am new to this forum n it's been an absolute godsend cuz I've only been in the chicken biz for 3 mos n have lots to learn. Welcome fellow Californian! ;-)

Good to know!! My first 2 are expected to hatch on the 12th, Lincoln's bday!! Since I'm so new to the chicken hatching world, I thought that as soon as you found an egg you needed to stick it in the bator! Lol I had no idea people held onto them. I think it will be exciting for my daughters & I with some hatching everyday (hopefully)! I have one due on Valentine's Day & in 2 days I'll have one due to hatch on my bday 2/20!! I have the eggs laying on burlap inside a styrofoam homemade incubator. I have a glass of water w/ a sponge, but should I put them on something else? I sew a lot; does anybody think they would be better on hemp fabric on their sides on a turn schedule or in cartons??
