Spotsylvania County, Virginia
Hello everyone! My name is Nancy. I live in Spotsylvania County in Virginia, about midway between Washington D.C. and Richmond. I do not have any chickens YET. My husband and I have been contemplating it for a long time. He's originally from Egypt and it was very common to have chickens in the yard, a goat on the roof, and pigeons keeping the goats company. I saw a story on CNN today so it's been on my mind, and we FINALLY have a bit of a budget to do something with our yard so what better than a garden and some chickens?

We live in the county, and I saw an ordinance posted on BYC that said it is permissible to have chickens here, as long as you don't run "afowl" (sorry) of the noise ordinance. So we have picked out a perfect corner in our yard and are going to look into getting a coop or whatever is allowed here before we buy any birdies. I'm SO looking forward to learning about keeping chickens.

We're not a super-crunchy-granola-and-Birkenstocks family but we do want to be good guardians of the planet, so we want to work on our gardening skills and also eat better food. Chickens can be a big part of that. We want to start small and do it right, and I plan to read the site a lot and ask lots of questions. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

My personal details are: married, five kids, couple of cats. I do eBay full time and I love to cook and bake. I do counted cross stitch and plan to teach myself how to sew in my "spare time". That's about it!
