I live on a lake with my hubby, teenage boy, poodle (not a fan of the chickens…wants to chase them or worse!) and 4 hens (Buff -Viola, Dominque - Poppy, Brown Leghorn- Lala also the Queen of the pecking order, and White Rock- Lilly). Looking to add two more to the hen house if I can get some chicks. Almost impossible to pick up chicks around Minnesota/ North Dakota as they hatcheries are sold out along with farm stores. My girls live in a 4x6 coop with 10x12 attached run with 1/2 hardware cloth all sides including roof and apron to keep predators out. Coop is high tech- cameras for viewing from my phone, automatic door, radiant heater which I control with my phone and able to monitor via WiFi temp/ humidity. They like to free range when I can watch them from my home office window or while I’m in the garden. They love to take dust baths in the sun, peck the ground for worms and eat goodies from my garden.

4x6 is 24 squares and I think she said she has 4 birds that’s 6 feet each now . If she adds two more it’s 4 ft.² each that’s what’s recommended almost everywhere you look. Yes as a minimum but her run is sizable (and beautiful by the way)
