Hi everyone! I am new here! I always wanted to have chickens but never thought it would become a reality instead of just a dream. Well, last week I came into work (veterinary hospital) and found two baby chickens in our avian incubator. I immediately squealed with excitement and had to give them kisses! Another technician came in, told me a woman had come in, dropped them off, and left them. She then asked if I wanted to take them home to raise them. I immediately accepted! Now I have two beautiful babies! Sadly, one was 1/3 the size of the other chick, and has septic arthritis from what X-rays show was a result of a bone break (she does not put any weight on her hurt leg). She is on topical meds and gets physical therapy/massage three times daily. So far she has been feeling better and has thrived! She is up to 2.4oz from 0.9oz (she felt so emaciated when that woman dropped her off), it has been 4 days. She loves to eat now! He sibling is currently at 5.2oz, so a big difference. I hope little one is able to make a full recovery and gain the use of her leg!
I am so glad I have joined this group! I have already learned so much to be able to give my chickens the best life!
