My name is Laura & I'm excited to join this community! I've been a crazy chicken lady since my work as an outdoor educator/wrangler in TX had me ordering 2 dozen baby chicks. I was warned that it wasn't uncommon to lose some chicks in the first couple months (hence ordering 2 dozen!). Apparently I was a good mama hen because I didn't lose even one!! They all grew up into lovely hens & I was hooked!!

Since then I have worked at a private Montessori school in Maine where we hatch chickens from the fertilized eggs in our barn. I had children from 3-6 carefully playing mama hen; under my watchful eye, they checked temp/humidity, turned eggs 3x a day, & candled them to see their babies progress. On hatch day, they were chicken cheerleaders & sang happy birthday as each one hatched. After living in a makeshift brooder in the school for a week, these chicks went off to loving families, who always raved about the chicks temperaments thanks to the kids handling/care. It was my "Christmas", but I never had a flock of my own.....until now. I've started with some Delaware, Australorp, Barred Rock, & Easter Eggers. I'm in love with my girls & hope to add to the flock in the coming years.
