New to BYC & raising chickens

Hey y'all! Just introducing myself. I've wanted to start raising chickens for a long time. I think 2022 is our year! Doing a ton of research & getting ready for Spring. We're soith of Dallas, TX in a suburban/semi-rural area with just over an acre. No trees or natural shade. Lots of hawks, buzzards, skunks, snakes, bobcats, coyotes... Should be interesting, but a lot of people around here raise chickens. Any tips or helpful suggestions welcomed!

I'm married, 25 years. We have 18 & 20 yr old "kids", 4 cats & a golden retriever mix pupper.
