Elk Grove
I'm from Oregon and was transplanted Sacramento 20 + years ago, and hated city life ever since. My children and I reside in Elk Grove now, and are currently waiting for our new place in Wilton to be finished. I started out as a child taking care of chickens on my grandparents property. Grama went to the feed store and came home with a couple dozen little fluff balls. I was an overly curious 8 year old, and in a terrible mishap in the chicken run, stepped on a little peep and broke her leg. From that point on she was my pet, I was responsible for splinting her leg, protecting her from the flock and seeing to her growth and well being until butchering day. She followed me everywhere & I loved it. When slaughtering time came, they tried to lock me in the house, but to no avail. I didn't eat chicken for several years after that, even though Grama promised she would never serve me my chicken. 25+ years later while cleaning out the deep freeze at Grama's, I found my foil wrapped chicken with a large duck-tape label on it reading "C's chicken- Do-Not-Eat!

I've since owned 2 flocks, one lost to divorce, and a second flock was recently sold to make room for my dogs, as we have the tiniest back yard here in a little Old Elk Grove bungalow. Frankly Ive seen apartments with bigger back yards! So, needless to say I'm ECSTATIC about our new home in Wilton with 2 acres! We will have plenty of room for chickens, goats, pigs, turkeys, and a very large garden. I cannot wait! We thought it would be another month or 2, but just got the word that its going to be a week or two!

So now I'm gearing up for building coops, corrals, and plowing up my dirt for a late summer garden. Anyone know what the limits are for chickens in Wilton? I know in the city it is 6, but we are hoping to have a larger flock this time. =)

Well, that's a little introduction for now.... looking forward to getting to know y'all. ;)

Brightest Blessings,
Oregon Roots
