New to BYC with unusual question

I have 12 hens ( a real variety) and a new Buff rooster who we just adopted and he is about 6 months old.

Started finding the pictured object in a nest box about a week ago. Don't know what it is, but am finding this 2 inch object about every other day. All hens are eating and drinking well. No sign of stress or disease. They free range within a 1/2 acre fenced pasture. What is going on?

I am still new on this site, and I love it. I have 29 pullets about 16 weeks old. I can't really give you any advise on the thing you keep finding in the nesting boxes. It is really weird. I am sure someone on this site will know or has had this problem before. Please let us know when you find out what in the world that is.
I would check out the forum under back yard chickens and then go to diseases.
