New to BYC!

Hey Ya'll! I just signed up to be a part of this community and I am so eager to learn from all of you. I am getting a few chicks this spring but wanted to get some advice from people who have gotten older pullets. Not sure if I want all my new chickys to be young chicks or not. Would like to start getting eggs sooner rather than later but Im nervous to introduce younger hens to older hens for fear of bullying. Any tips?

Welcome to BYC, you can introduce at night, put them in a cage around the others(they can see but not attack each other), remember to quarantine as well to keep both side healthy, but chicks are always fun to start out with IMO.

You've come to the right place.
I would keep the baby chicks in the brooder for maybe a month then a great way to introduce them to the chickens is to hang lettuce(or any other treat your chickens may like) in the coop when you let the chicks in. That way the chickens will get distracted but at the same time they are getting used to the chicks. Be sure to keep an eye on the chicks.

Ok, thanks. I have two toddlers and I really wanted them to "grow up" with some of the chicks. Thought is would be a good learning experience for all parties involved.
