Hi, I'm new to BYC and still trying to navigate my way round it! I'm from Northern Ireland, 41yrs. I have 2 hens, Audrey Hepburn and Doris Day and have just recently got a cream legbar Rooster so will be needing lots of advice I've had my hens for over a year and just got Rocky the Roo 2 days ago so trying to watch him closely and learn a bit about him!

Hello and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. I'd advise keeping an eye on the feathering of your girls - with only two, your fella is likely to be riding 'em both, like a Grand National winner :D if possible, another few pullets may make for a more harmonious flock and less stressed birds.

You may wish to drop by the UK thread - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/655508/uk-member-please-say-hi/890

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/learning-center.11/ and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Thank you

My hens have the run of our yard and a big field behind the house so the coop is quite small, 2 nesting boxes and 2 roosting perches, it would house 3 chickens comfortably! Problem is I'm afraid to put my new roo in with the hens at night in case it's too confined and he hurts them, should he be in a separate area when they roost at night?

Does he hurt the hens during the day? Usually they sleep at night.

He is going to start tearing them up soon enough. Roosters should have closer to ten girls to share his love with...two is way to few.

Yes I've read that a lot, I'll have to extend their coop and will then probably get a few more
