Hi there, I'm new to BYC and was prompted to introduce myself, so here goes!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I've had chickens in the past (egg layers and meat birds) but it's been years. My husband and I decided that this was the year to have them again.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have 14, but my daughter's class is hatching eggs at school and I have a feeling we'll end up with a few more.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Isa Brown, Ameraucana, and Rhode Island Red

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
My Aunt told me about it and said it was the best place to go for all things chickens.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to crochet, paint, read, craft, build things.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I have 2 kiddos, ages 3 and 6. We have 2 dogs, a Shih Tzu and a Lab mix. I am mostly a stay at home mom, but I work at our church a few hours a week. We live in the country and wouldn't have it any other way. We are hoping to build a second coop next year to raise some meat birds. predators are a problem in our area (mainly fox, coyote, and raccoon) so I'm hoping to get some good advice about that here.

G'Day from down under The Rusty Nichols :frowWelcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. This one may be of particular interest:
Topic of the Week - Keeping the Flock Safe from Predators

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.
