(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are new to owning chickens, are familiar with them and have tons of research - I am an overthinker who tends to go BEYOND the required! We moved to a tiny home on 15acres and are plans are to start a homestead that can help us be self sufficient. We just acquired our first brood of chickens and pheasants
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 19 chickens, 6 pheasant
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have leghorns, guineas, black sex links, Bantams (possible silkie, they are developing nice curly feathers on their feet and legs) and Old English Chocolate Orpingtons
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The joy they bring to my granddaughters and by allowing them to learn responsibility, eggs, natural habitat dwellers, great to watch and interact with. Finally building a chicken coop to give our brood a nice place to live.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I garden, create natural remedies from plants that exist around us, hike, kayak, grown tons of indoor houseplants, craft, repurpose whatever I can.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Grandma, Grandpa and two granddaughters. We have 2 dogs, Giant and small, Mastiff and Jackaranian
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
google Search for information on sexing pheasant. I also follow a FB page by a similar name -
