I am new to BYC, but not new to a back yard flock. We had a flock of girls in our suburban backyard for about 5 years, but it was about 10 years ago.
We don’t have chickens currently as the neighbor’s dog killed my entire flock of 12. That dog has gone on to meet his maker, but we had nothing to do with that bit of good fortune.
I love having chickens in my yard at least in part because our aging neighbors enjoy the memories they bring when they drive or walk by. It is wonderful to have really fresh eggs, from carefully tended hens to eat and to share.
I am a Putting Food By advocate and sew for myself and my Grands.
I have a supportive and loving DH (Patrick) who telecommutes to work every day and a sweet dog (Sandy) who has bladder cancer and is not long with us.
I stumbled onto BYC while looking for (relatively) inexpensive coop designs on the web.
