Hi

I am the mother of 3 +2 children and thought that I could take on some chicks in my spare time. I thought they would produce better "pet" lessons than some of the traditional pets (let's face it...none of the kids like walking our dog) and we had chickens when I was little so....

...We got a coop and a run and a barred rock named Rhoddy and an EE named Easter. We let them continue to free range in the backyard and supplimented with egg layer. We were reqrded a week later with 2 eggs!

Small success so we went shopping for more....We added a Blue Cochin "Elvis", an English Game Hen (bantam) "Marshmellow" and a RIR "Ruby" to the mix. The new ladies were purchased at a "Fur and Feather" swap and we were told they were pullets that would lay soon.

Everyone seemed to be doing great, so ....

....we picked up some Ameracauna chicks!

Let the games begin! We live in South Western Ontario in a small town that allows chickens as long as they are not roosters. Fingers crossed for the chicks.

Hekkoooo!! And Welcome!! You just joined BYC and already have gotten more chickens? I think you will need to make some BYC friends FAST- you're going to need help building more coops!!
Chickens do make good pets for kids. Finding eggs is exciting, like Easter every day!! And it really doesn't wear off.
