Hey everyone!
I've seen this site a lot when i look up information about my chickens. I'm probably one of the youngest on here (14)! I love my chickens and I'm slowly adding to my collection. At the moment i have 14 chickens altogether. 4 adult bantams (or around here baneys) and 2 babies, 4 silkies, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Golden Comet mix, 1 Plymouth Rock mix, and 1 that i don't even know what she is. I love my chickens more than anything! The silkies have started an addiction, they are so calm and gentle. I'm hoping i can learn more about my animals and hear about all the amazing stories!!

I'm happy that i did! My chickens calm me down and make an awful day better. I like them better than most of my friends!

Hows it going! I just joined BYC. Greetings from Nor Cal. Im in Richmond CA (bordering El Sobrante) and i am excited to be starting my own backyard chicken adventure. I just finished my hoop house/greenhouse and am now onto my next project: chickens and fresh eggs.

I will be converting a 6ft x 6ft x 4f high chainlink dog kennel into a DIY chicken coop. Has anyone else done this before? I have numerous idea in my head for designs and will be building this week, with hopes of having my flock by the end of the week, assuming i can get some chickens. What are thoughts on getting chickens from Craigslist? Anyone have good/bad experiences?

I am new to chickens so if anyone is in my area and has any advice for me or maybe some young egg-laying chickens for sale please message me. I do not want chicks to start with. Just poulets.

I would like to have 6-7 chickens (females only). Rhode island reds have been suggested to me...anyone have any input on this? i Know there are numerous other breeds. Im looking for a fairly large breed chicken with good egg production...I want large eggs :)

Cheers!

Katie O, Feathersprings, and KMilani!

KMilani, my first chickens were Rhode Island Reds, and once they hit their stride they were laying eggs for me every day. Nice, large brown eggs.

Truthfully, I love my Rhode Island Red, I'd love to have a few more just like her. She lays an egg everyday and she's got an amazing temperament. My mom loves her color and size.
