Hello,

My name is Fluttervale. Pretty much anywhere online you see Fluttervale, you're talking to me :) I do not currently have chickens but am planning a hobby farm in the next 5 years. I would like to be able to feed my family from my land and also be able to raise an income without a boss. I currently live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and am looking at nearby areas for my "farm." I have been lurking here for about 2 months, just reading threads.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I do not currently have chickens. My Dad forbade us from having them for 4-h because he grew up with them and they are "dirty and noisy." I haven't lived anywhere but apartments as an adult.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Zero.

(3) What breeds do you have?

I am planning to have Wyandottes and possibly other breeds. Not sure yet. I would like to have them to show as well as breed for egg/meat production.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

BYH.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I knit, quilt, garden, can my own food, and play Farmville.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I am currently single with a long-term boyfriend. I have a Labrador, a cat, and three guinea pigs in my apartment. I work in retail.

no fathers here to stop your plans (I had the same thing growing up - my parents wouldn't let me get a dog. My father wouldn't even allow me to get more stuffed animals.(weird huh??)

My sister, aunt, mother etc helped me "smuggle" in stuffed animals. I eventually ended up breeding , showing, trimming Cockers, writing for dog magazines, etc. etc. If he hadn't caused so much friction I probably wouldn't have been that intense about getting dogs.

Isn't it nice to be an adult?

It's fantastic. He's very supportive about me having my chickens on my property. He's a great doggy Grandpa so I'm sure he'll be amused when I do get a property and get my chickens.
