Welcome to BYC! I've never kept bees, but I'm considering getting some bee hives. If I do, I'll probably post questions and pick your brain. Good luck with your bees.

Okay, do you get stung a lot? How much honey can one hive produce in a year? How many bees are actually in a typical hive? Do you have to have a lot of equipment to get started in bee keeping? Since I live in an area with lots of black bears, would the hives attract bears? Have you ever had a bear encounter at your hives?Hope I ain't going too fast for you!! I have thought about trying bee keeping but without anyone to teach me, I just assumed it would be really hard to learn. I love reading, but I am more of a hands on learner.

I don't get stung often, a yearling hive can produce with a super on about 7-15 pounds 60,000 bees in a hive, not a heck of equipment needed,yes black bears will be attracted you will need a high voltage fence , I have not have bear encounter but I have with a skunk and some left out frames,you are going to need to get a book might i suggest the beekeeper bible,by the way no body taught me but books and YouTube .com
