So when is the best time to start a new hive? I have a friend who purchased some bee keeping supplies, including a new hive and never went any further. He still has the hive in his garage collecting dust. I could probably talk him out of it. Is it hard to find bees? Do you have to purchase all your bees or can you attract wild bees?

your friend is to late to start but you could capture a swarm of honey bees. You should start in April. But don't capture a swarm at this time they will die in winter.mabey you should buy two hives and your tools at this time and wait until April. If you have kids they'll be a great help come harvest season
