Thanks for the welcoming words -

yes, we currently have 6 hens - 2 little RI Reds and 4 older, big pouffy Australorps. At the most we have had 10 birds - a couple of years back we had racoons attack - that was tough to lose a couple. I am enjoying reading about other folks questions and flocks.

Welcome to BYC, Erika. Glad you decided to our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. ) I'm sorry about your losses to the raccoons. It's always sad to lose one of our flock. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
