My wife and I are purchasing our first home this month. We are planning our coop and stock. Definitely will be soaking up *** much info as possible. So awesome a forum with such great insight exists!!!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! How exciting for you and your wife to be moving to your new home and getting started with some chickens! Do you have breeds in mind? Please do drop by the learning centre, lots of super articles on getting started with your chicken adventures. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Thanks for the warm welcome.

My wife is partial to Barred Rocks as she had them as a child. My uncle kept Wyandottes, so I'm partial to those. We plan on keeping 3, possibly 4 hens so, perhaps one of each and maybe an Orpington. We are raising them for eggs, and for fun.

This seems like a great place to learn, and look forward to being part of the community!!!

You're welcome. I've raised all of those breeds over the past 50 years, and they are all hardy, dependable breeds. I think you will really like the Orpington. They are very friendly and gentle. My children and my granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) made lap pets of them.
