I've had my hens for about a week now, but have only been living on the property with them since Saturday. It is a little embarassing how often I trudge out to the back of our property, where they live, through the forests of goat heads and other weeds to "check on them." I pick weeds for them, or take them veggie scraps from the kitchen, pretend I need to change their water. I do enjoy watching them very much.

After dinner tonight, I took them some meat scraps from our tacos. Once they figured out that it was MEAT!!! They went nuts, trying to steal bits of meat from each other and grab up all they could get. I was going to die laughing! I'll have to put more scrap meat aside for them. Hilarious. And, they love chia seed, when I take that out.

Just having fun, learning to live with them!

I don't think it wears off! I have had my four chickens nearly a year and they still make me laugh out loud. They will LOOOOVE meat scraps and a good protein intake will help the egg laying rate. I have enjoyed introducing new things to them and seeing what they really go crazy over. I still spend hours "taking care" of them - the more you watch, the more you notice thier individual personalities too. Luckily, I work from home and can pop out for a visit when I want.

I especially love their run - head down, wings out and feet going like billy-o. Works for me every time.

Enjoy!
