Unfortunately, my lil one didn’t make it. I found her this morning past away.Hello and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
You can closely examine her skin with a strong light and a magnifying glass while someone holds her for you. Please post pictures.
Thank you, i will have to keep a closer eye on the rest. My sick chicken didn’t make it.Welcome to BYC. If it is dehydration the inside of her mouth will be pale too. It won't hurt to give the entire flock electrolytes 3 or 4 times a week. Just make sure they have clean, fresh water as well.
You can usually find a veterinarian who will do a float test on their poop. You won't have to take the chicken in, just a poop sample. They will be able to tell you if it is coccidiosis or a worm infestation.
Also check her over, especially around the vent, for signs of lice or mites.
I was doing all these things. The other 3 seem fine. I kept getting 3 eggs a day. My other one just wouldn’t look better from her comb.Hello and welcome to BYC!
Is it over 100 degrees during the day? She may be developing heat stroke. Keep your birds hydrated with ice in their water, offer up some watermelon during the hottest part of the day, keep fans running in the coop and run, and if any of them look exhausted, bring them inside to the AC for a couple of hours to cool off.
I'm so sorry.Unfortunately, my lil one didn’t make it. I found her this morning past away.
Here is what i was doing depending on how I saw her in the morning.
If she seemed fine, I would leave her with the rest of the flock.
With the rest of the flock I was giving them watermelon 1-2 times a day. Fan running directly under their coop in the shade. Watering their coop several times a day. Placed buckets of water and big blocks of ice. Placed several iced water bottles inside their 5 gallon water dispenser. Had another water dispenser with electrolytes.
When she seemed stressed I brought her inside the house placed her in a box with food water and watermelon to herself. I massaged her back, she looked at me and would let me do it. I massaged her head. Then in the evening when it was cool i would let all of them run around the backyard like crazy. Then she would go inside the coop with the rest of them. But it’s been 96 degrees outside. The rest seem to be doing fine. I had already brought her inside 3 times prior to her passing away. I have been devastated feel like a bad chicken mama. My dog seemed to want to console me this morning when she saw me cry. There she is the day before she passed away, in the evening before her last. She is the one in the coop. By the way i would leave the door open all night with the fan directly at their coop inside.
Thank you. Nice to meet you!Welcome to our awesome community! Nice to meet you![]()
