My name is Kiz, and I live in Tallahassee, FL.

I've wanted chickens for awhile now about 5 years ago bought some books started to gear up but 'chickened' out.

Then this year a friend wanted to get chicks and got me to thinking. I'd like some layers.

Then everything went south from there.

I got excited started researching breeds and what I need for the brooder.

Decided on Australorpes about 4 layers no roos. That was Saturday night when hubby agreed on concept, breed and such(he's the one that backed out last time).

Most order places are sold out til May for what I want and don't like the idea of shipping.

Sunday comes and head down to TSC for Chicken days.

no chicks all sold out. Minimum 6 chicks (I only want 4), Austra's are special order which would be 25 chicks

Ok so buy all the necessities decide to go with unmedicated food. chicks come in on Tuesday. I'll be back.

Can't wait, can't wait..... hmm they sell chicks at our flea market.

Get there 2 vendors of chicks. white rocks, black giants at first pass it up don't want those.

2nd vendor has dominicks as he calls them. HMMM... I remember dominiques were a breed that made the possible list.

Ok so how many females do you have? Oh I got some let me see get a box and pulls out 8 claiming they are girls (one is quite small, a runt). Oh they are so cute !!!!oh no flea market is cash and I didn't bring my purse, everyone empty your pockets. I got $19.....so he says the 8 for the $19. DEAL.

Now I'm a math teacher by profession so it shouldn't surprise you how quickly I learned chicken math, my 4 became 8.

As I suspect one of the chicks has cocci my one brooder became two. While picking up corid and medicated feed looked for guineas (wanted 2 of those for my garden). My luck held no guineas.

I am also now suspecting I might have barred rocks instead of doms since doms are actually rare. and pretty sure a couple of those girls are boys. Ahh well. I should have known better.

My other hobbies are talking my hubby into all kinds of crazy projects, last minute vacations and gardening.

Kiz - we must be kindred spirits!!!! Our family is on the same journey but we are several steps behind you. Our ckicks are going to be used as a 4-H project for our 6 year old daughter! Good luck with your journey!!! I too have the same hobby of talking my hubby into crazy ideas.
