I am new to chickens. On Father's Day I found a hen roaming around, so I brought it home. It is a friendly chicken. I mean like a super cool chicken. I am hoping she lays eggs. I am in the process of renovating my daughter's clubhouse in to a coop. Since I am new to this I am hoping to land some good advice from other people raising chickens. I bought a new chick today (not sure of it's age). It is starting to grow adult style feathers. I have the chick and hen in seperate cages until I finish the coop! what are the chances I can put the 2 together when the coop is done? And when will my hen start laying eggs? Do I need a nesting box. How many eggs will the hen lay each day? I appreciate any answer anyone can give me!!!

Welcome to BYC!
As for your questions...here's my take...
For the chick and hen, watch how they interact with each other through the cage. If the hen tries to attack, keep them in seperate cages still.
Hens usually start laying around 6 months old and have the ability to lay one egg a day, but it does depend on the breed (some are just about daily layers, some lay less frequently than that).

I should add that you CAN house the chick and hen together, but it's usually best to make sure that they get along first or that the chick gets a little older and can kinda stand up to the hen.
