Hi everyone. My husband and I live in Marion, Arkansas and recently purchased 6 chicks. We bought them from Tractor Supply Company since we do not know what we are doing and did not want to spend a large amount of money on chicks that could possible die. Anyway, the 6 chiks are now about 5 - 6 weeks old and feathered. A local co-op farmer recommended we keep them in their brooder pen, which we had to expand, a couple more weeks since it is still cold and wet. They are great fun. Our black lab has taken on a 'surrogate mother' role and has to go out to the garage to check on them with us. She will stick her muzzle in their brooder pen but doesn not try to bite/hurt them. She has the funniest expression when they peck her muzzle! The cats on the other hand are freaked out by the chirping noise they make. Needless to say things are interesting at our house and I'm glad to be part of a growing 'Chicken Nation.'
