Hi everyone! I'm a total noob to chickens and want around 10-12 of them. I have one right now and she has yet to lay an egg. Can some people help me on where I should get my chicks and what type I should get get if I want a lot of eggs. :)

It would help if you gave some clue to the area of your residence. No city names are necessary but, if you live in a warm/hot area you wouldn't search for breeds that have high tolerance for cold etc. They are lots of high production(egg).

How old is your present chicken? Maybe she hasn't reached laying age. The Learning Center above can provide answers to most of your questions.

Howdy from Kansas and :welcome. Happy you joined our flock. Lots of great breeds that are excellent layers...leghorns produce lots of white eggs. Breeds like Rhode Island Reds, Black Australorps, and the sex-links are great layers of brown eggs. So many choices it's hard to go wrong! Best of luck in your search! :)

Hello there, and welcome to Backyard chickens! I personally fell for Wyandottes, they are pretty good layers, cold hardy, and beautiful! But you really can not go wrong, so enjoy BYC!
