Hi! I am new to the world of backyard chickens (at least as an adult, we kept them when I was a kid). We brought home three 5 week old chicks today. They have most of their feathers but are still fuzzy around their bums. It has been between 85-90 degrees today and I put them in the coop, closed off the run, and they seem fine. But I am concerned about them at night. The low should be 56 degrees. Is that too cold? Do they need a lamp? Or possibly just to be moved in to the house for evenings? How long until they are ok in their coop at night?

And just for cuteness sake, here are Henevieve, Repecka and Fluffers while we let them explore this afternoon:

Thank you in advance!

First of all, they are so cute! second of all, i put my chicks in the coop at 6 weeks old and i still put in a heat lamp at night just in case cause i have an opening in my coop that has no closing. (i live in a cramped neighborhood, dont worry! there are no predators.)

I brought them in and put them under the lamp. I just couldn't risk it. I think I will leave them out a bit longer and put them out a bit earlier every day to get them used to the cooler temps while they feather out more before I leave them over night.
