Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

It's a good day for making bread and butter pickles. In another hour it'll be time to rinse the salt off the cukes and onions and finish them up. I should end up with six or seven pints, but I might put them in half pints. I was out in the garden at 5AM with my headlamp on picking all the cukes I could find.

Got another 3.5 pounds of greeny beenies out of the garden. 6 or 7 pints????

I'm going to use the pressure canner to water bath the pickles, then it'll be warmed up and ready to pressure can the green beans. I'll try raw pack this time. Less work.

And more tomatoes are starting to ripen, so salsa making time is getting close. I might plant some baby bok choi seeds in the garden today, where I pulled the onions out.

I was going to paint today, but might not have time. LOL

It's been a long day. Just finished getting everything washed up after canning. I had to water bath jars two times because I had more than the canner would hold. I got 14 half pints and 3 pints of B&B pickles, and there are 7 pints of green beans in the pressure canner cooling down before I can open it up.

Canning in half pint jars is a pain in the arse. Little jars make a lot of work.

Finally, a second pullet started laying eggs. Got two today. This one's eggs are a little darker than the first egg layer's eggs. She laid it in a new nest box I put in the run.

And there was no painting, no planting bok choi today. Canning wore me out. I found a praying mantis out back and put it into the garden to help with pests.

Here's all the jars I canned today. I'm beat. LOL

Nice!

Survived the blood test. Took 4 pokes and even then it took for ever for my body to give up any blood. lol I have to go back for more in a week. Well, I'll stretch that out to the next week because we're having a shower remodel next week.

I wonder if part of the problem is the skill of the person taking the blood? Anyway, glad you got it over with.

Do you have enough tomatoes yet to make your marinara sauce?

Oh no...this is the routine. My veins have calluses from all the blood draws over the past 7 years. Unless they have an ultrasound machine, which they do at OHSU, it takes several tries to find one they can get into.

I think my veins are just saying, "leave me alone!!!" 😁
