Day 1 and 2

I want to start off by saying I'm not a carpenter. This whole time has been a great learning experience. Came to this site and found a lot of great ideas. I ended up choosing a 5 by 10 run and coop design. Wichita Cabin Coop, The Palace, Littlefeat's The Feather Factory and Ascrawnychicken's Coop were the coops that influenced my design. I started on the
frame work.

Dug out an area and leveled it.

Day 3

I spend this time trying to figure out how to build the frame for a roof. I decided to go with a shingled roof because we had plenty left over from the house. It was raining a lot off and on and I didn't want to put the wood on the frame and let it get wet.

Got a small break in the showers.

Day 4

Putting shingles on in the rain.

Day 5

Adding the hardware cloth.

Day 6

Made the door, finished up adding the hardware cloth and started framing the coop.

Day 7

Added Door and finished up framing the coop.

Day 8

The day I've been trying to talk myself out of. The more I read this forum the more I realized I need to add more protection around the base of the run/coop. So... I ended up digging a trench around the run/coop to add 12 inches of hardware cloth.

I would have loved to just add gravel back into the trench, but I'm on a budget. So I had a slack of extra bricks laying around

, I added to the bottom of the trench before I covered back up with dirt. I hope this keeps the digging predators out.

This was a quick glimpse of the past couple days. Any input or questions? I'll ended up adding questions that come up.

How high should I place the roost?

Things I wish I would have done-
*Added more roof to the ends of the coop. I wish I would have made at least a couple more inches on each side.
*Gone to the RESTORE before I adding the washers and screws to the hardware cloth. They had a great deal on washers.

Oh and the green chair in the pics is for my supervisor.
