We are a homeschooling family in the early stages of our journey to becoming homesteaders. I have 3 daughters 9 and under that begged and begged to get baby chicks when our homeschool group did an incubation hatch science project in early spring of this year. I've always been a farm girl at heart so I joined the campaign to get their suburban raised father to agree.
We started out with 3 chicks but that quickly escalated to 12. We have 2 Brahmas, 2 Silverudds, a Silkie, 4 Silkie mixes, and 3 Ameraucanas (which we sadly are looking to rehome as all 3 ended up being cockerels-not enough pullets to entertain that many roos and not enough land for a bachelor coop). I've definitely learned my lesson on straight runs.

We all love to watch our chickens chase bugs and see what mischief they can get in to. We are anxiously awaiting our first eggs. We love camping and outdoor family time in general.

Every time I've had a question about chicken tending my searches have led me here to BYC. After months of lurking I finally joined so that I could ask my own questions and participate in the community. I am looking forward to continuing our chicken journey along with the BYC community.
