Hello all and thank you all for the wealth of information on this website!

1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my very first chickens 5 weeks ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 14 chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have: Buckeye, Cuckoo Marans, Double Laced Barnevelder, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Australorp, Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, Partridge Rock, White Rock, 2 hatchery Ameraucanas, Whiting True Blue and Whiting True Green, and a mystery chick.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I am a research junkie and was researching chickens for several years before getting them.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, reading, baking, hiking, making things, spending time with my family.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We move regularly thanks to Uncle Sam and I am a mom of boys - they are enjoying our chicks as much as I am!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I am hoping someone can help me with chick identification...

First photo is my Barnevelder - does the black upright tail at 5 weeks indicate a roo?

Are these all roosters? I think the white one is my white rock?

Not sure about our mystery chick, partridge rock, Ameraucanas.

Melissa has green legs so I thought she would be Ameraucana, but she has no beard or tufts appearing...

Coon is the top roo in the rooster picture and in this photo - seems to have white on the edges of his feathers - I am guessing (a Silver Penciled Rock and) the mystery chick? Until two days ago he was almost completely a greyish fluff and had rings around his eyes. He started with brown chipmunk stripes like John and Taco.

This is Taco and I was guessing Partridge Rock? (My bottom chick of the three possible roosters, also)

This is John and I was guessing she is the other Ameraucana because her darker feet have a greenish cast to them?

None of the chicks have beards or muffs at all yet so I am feeling a little baffled. My husband says no roosters and 2 are already pretty aggressive with the rest of the hens so I am doing my best to figure them all out and enjoying every minute with them!

Hi and welcome to our community and congrats on becoming a chicken-keeper.

007 Sean has given you the best forum to post pics for gender, so please feel free to start a thread over there.

On this link you'll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping birds - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archives

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/website-announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3/?prefix_id=3

Hello and welcome to BYC! It’s great to have you here.

There does seem to be a lot of roosters there - at this age the comb (in single combed breeds) is the best identifier. It will be much bigger in cockerels than in pullets. But as Sean suggests, for the best response please do post in the breed & gender forum.

Best wishes for your chicken adventures :thumbsup

Hello and welcome!

Your chicks are absolutely adorable. Thank you for sharing the photos of them with us! I am not so good at telling the genders of chickens that young, so I'm afraid I can't help you out much there, but there is a forum just for identifying breeds and genders that I have found helpful in my time here. You may want to check it out. :)
